Traversing the Map

Agents of the Crown

Any entity that has its position tracked as it travels across the world map is considered an Agent of the Crown, or merely simply an “Agent”.

Agents include armies and messengers. As agents, they are created in a Region, which is controlled by the Realm of a Ruler, at the moment that Ruler takes specific actions, such as Muster Army or Send Message.

Once created, their position on the world map is tracked until the agent is dismissed. An army exists until it's Might is reduced to 0 or the Disband Army action is taken. A messenger exists as long as it has a message to deliver, such as the one issued by the Send Message action when it is created, which includes the reply that it may return with. Once it has completed its action a Messenger is automatically dismissed.

Speed

Speed represents the number of Regions that can be traversed in one turn by an Agent. A continuous path must be able to be drawn from the starting Region to its destination. All Regions are considered to be the same size regardless of how they may be drawn on the map, with each Region taking 1 Turn ⏳ to traverse. Regions are traversed one at a time in sequence.

Speed also represents the number of Regions that can be included in the return journey. For example, a Messenger with Speed 2 👣 can travel to a destination 2 Regions away, and back again, by the end of 1 Turn ⏳.

Visibility and Exploration

Visibility determines how far a Ruler can see on the world map, while exploration determines what they know about the world around them.

Rulers always have visibility to a distance of one Region. This means that a Ruler is aware of Armies, Messengers, and any other Agents, in Regions adjacent to the Regions they control. Rulers also know the current Attributes and Settlements and their Location, in adjacent Regions.

The GM and the other Players may decide if Visibility is global, or if there is a “fog of war” obscuring whatever is not immediately adjacent to what they control. This can also be independent of how much of the map is explored, and know to the Rulers.
